Slow Stitching is about being in the moment.... slowing down and enjoying the process of creating.
Calico and Ivy are delighted to present Lisa Mattock from Forage, an amazing Textile Artist to take this 101 workshop in Slow Stitching. Lisa recommends you do this workshop before any of the "themed"ones.
Lisa draws inspiration from the Japanese stitching methods of Boro and Sashiko and she will show you how to use a mixture of re-purposed, recycled and vintage textiles to create the background for your piece. She will share with you her journey thus far and some of the special treasures that have caught her eye and inspired her along the way.
Have a rummage through those gorgeous old linens that grandma gave you (or the local op shop!), bring them along and learn the art of repurposing them in a contemporary, unique way.
Date: Friday 16th November, 2018
Time: 10:00am to 3:00pm
Cost: $130.00 per person, which includes tuition, class notes, a goodie bag with an array of reclaimed textiles, threads and embellishments. Morning and afternoon tea are provided along with plenty of tea and coffee!
Lunch: You can purchase lunch from our yummy new neighbours, the Lily Bean Cafe on the day. They are fabulous!
*No previous stitching experience is necessary, but is of course welcome.
*The classes are designed so that there is no "one size fits all". There are no templates to follow and definitely no right or wrong way to approach your Slow Stitch project.
*You will need to bring scissors, assorted threads and any special vintage or treasured textiles or embellishments you wish to sew into your work.
After the class, whether you have a few moments or hours to give to your Slow Stitching, you will no doubt find that like many of life's great pleasures, the quiet moments you have indulged in will be a recipe for calmness and promote further creativity.
You will love this workshop!
