We would love to welcome our new smocking teacher, Margie Macalpine to our first smocking class for 2022! She is a Teacher and Consultant in sewing, smocking and embroidery and we are thrilled to have her teaching in the shop.
Margie will be running a beginner's class where you will learn how to smock by making a simple covered coathanger in a seeded cream cotton. Such a classic to have in your wardrobe, but also the best way to learn the all the techniques. The beautiful pictures attached are class samples that Margie has made to show you some of the different techniques that you can use.
Once you finish your beginner's class, you will be able to attend our fortnightly classes which will run on Friday afternoons where you can work on more projects., meet some new friends, eat some cake and have a wonderful time!
The textile technique of smocking has been in practice in England since the late 17th to 19th century. The exact time in history and its true origins is unsure, but what we do know that this beautiful technique continues to be an enduring part of fashion.
