One of our favourite worsted weight yarns, Shelter was launched in 2010 by Brooklyn Tweed.  It is a 2-ply, woollen spun yarn that has been quoted by its maker as being the ‘workhorse’ yarn of their range.

We totally agree!  This yarn knits up beautifully in plain garter or stockinette stitch, as well as providing great stitch definition in cables and motifs.

Treat Shelter gently, as being a woollen spun yarn, it is delicate in nature.  Once you knit and block your chosen garment, you will be delighted in the fabric that you have produced.

Shelter has an extensive colour palette to choose from and great pattern support from Brooklyn Tweed. Almost the whole Calico and Ivy team have knitted up a Weekender Sweater by Andrea Mowry in this delightful yarn. Some of our other favourite patterns for Shelter include the Mossbank sweater, the Migration cardigan, the Fort pullover … and who could forget the Levenwick cardigan!
