Clare Devine Workshop: Sock Knitting Toolkit - Saturday 27th October 2018

Love knitting socks but want to experiment with some new techniques to add a new level of finesse to your projects??  This workshop is the perfect space to extend your sock knitting toolkit!

This jam-packed workshop with the talented Clare Devine will leave you feeling inspired and ready to tackle some new sock patterns while banishing all those little niggles that often leave you feeling lack lustre about the finished object.

Clare will cover cast-on and cast/bind-off techniques best for both toe-up and top down socks, hints and tips for neater finish to your socks, including gapless gussets and neater no "donkey ear" toes. There will be plenty of large group discussion, time for practising new knitting techniques and small group discussions.

Cost:    $80.00 which includes full tuition, handouts, morning tea and plenty of tea and coffee.

Skills needed:    Some knowledge of sock knitting – ideally you will have completed one or two sock projects. 

Skills Focus in Class:  
*Cast-on techniques for socks (top down and toe up)
*Kitchener stitch with and without a darning needle
*Banish the “donkey ears” on toes finished with Kitchener stitch
*Tips and techniques for casting off toe-up socks.
*Stronger socks – tips and techniques for strengthening heels and toes
*Beautiful pick-ups for heel flaps
*Mind the gap – gapless gussets
*Ways to neaten your short row heels
*Tips for neater ribbing

Approximate Level:   Adventurous beginner onwards.

Materials to Bring:
**DK yarn to knit samples – choose a light, solid coloured, tightly spun and smooth yarn with a high natural fibre content. This is an ideal time to use up odds and ends in stash.

**3.5mm / US 4 - 3.75mm / US 5 needles
